Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon 

Mr Chou is a dual fellowship trained Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon currently working as a Consultant Surgeon, at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge. He specialises in hip and knee replacements as well as pelvic, acetabular and lower limb fracture surgery. In 2019 he was presented with the “You Made a Difference Award” at Addenbrookes Hospital for his dedication to patient care, improving patient pathways and supporting the multi-professional team.

After studying Medicine at University College London, he completed orthopaedic surgical training in London; where he gained experience at world-renowned hospitals. Mr Chou attained Fellowship to the Royal College of Surgeons in England and was awarded Certificate of Completion of Training. Since then, he has completed nearly two years of advanced senior fellowship training in primary and revision hip and knee replacements at the Royal London Hospital and the Royal Adelaide Hospital in Australia. In addition, he has undertaken a further year of advanced senior fellowship training in pelvic and acetabular reconstruction at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge. His dual training provides him with unique expertise to not only expertly perform primary hip and knee replacements; but also the more complex surgeries and even the re-do operations for hip replacements that need revising. 

Mako Robot Daud Chou

Specialist Mako Assisted Robotic Surgeon

Mr Chou is a member the Specialist Mako Assisted Robotic Team (SMART) based in Cambridge. This state-of-the art robotic technology allows surgeons to provide patients with a personalised 3-dimensional surgical plan prior to the procedure.   During the operation, the robotic arm assists the surgeon to improve the accuracy and precision of the surgery.  Mr Chou undertakes both total hip and total knee replacements using the Mako robotic arm system.

Mr Chou is co-director of the Cambridge Lower Limb Trauma Cadaveric Course and faculty member for a number of national & international courses for surgeons. He has coordinated interprofessional teaching for the orthopaedic department and the Major Trauma Service at Addenbrookes Hospital.

 

Mr Chou was a Clinical Lecturer at the University of Adelaide and now continues to take a keen interest in educating and inspiring the next generation of surgeons from the University of Cambridge.

 

He is a member of Cambridge Orthopaedics, delivering educational lectures online and posting instructional videos on YouTube.

Daud Chou Hip Surgeon

Humanitarian work

Mr Chou strongly believes in contributing to global medicine and regularly works with charities to support educational programmes across the world.  Working with a number of charity organisations, he is involved with the exchange of orthopaedic knowledge and expertise with surgeons in developing countries. 

 

As a member of Humanity First’s Medical Disaster Response Team, he has been deployed to three international disasters: the Kashmir earthquake of 2006, Haitian earthquake of 2010 and the Nepalese earthquake of 2015. He regularly lectures and teaches about orthopaedic trauma management in these austere environments.

Dr David Tew

Dr Tew completed his undergraduate training in London from 1978-84.  He went onto Post-graduate training mainly in East Anglia from 1985 - 1994 and has been a Consultant Anaesthetist since 1994.

​

Dr Tew has practised in Intensive care medicine, orthopaedics and trauma surgery, local anaesthetic techniques, large organ transplantation, emergency surgery, upper abdominal surgery and pre-operative patient assessment.

​

His current practice includes orthopaedic and trauma surgery as well as upper GI and general surgery.

 

He is currently working as a Consultant Anaesthetist at Addenbrookes Hospital with practising privileges at Spire Lea hospital and Nuffield hospital. 

David Tew
Guilermo Martinez

Royal Papworth Hospital, Cambridge

Dr Guillermo Martinez has been a Consultant Cardio-thoracic Anaesthetist at Royal Papworth Hospital since 2011.

 

He graduated in Argentina and completed his training in anaesthesia and intensive care in Madrid, Spain in 2008. Dr Martinez completed his specialisation in anaesthesia for high-risk patients with advanced heart and lung diseases. His scope of practice includes anaesthesia for heart and lung transplantation, atrial fibrillation ablation, abdominal procedures and orthopaedic surgery.

 

In line with advances in minimally invasive and robotic surgery, he has pioneered the use of regional techniques and opioid-free anaesthesia as part of the enhanced recovery programme following hip and knee replacement surgery. He has also recently appeared in the BBC documentary ‘Surgeons At The Edge Of Life”

Dr Amr Abdelaal

Dr Abdelaal is an internationally trained specialist in paediatric and adult anaesthesia, with over 16 years of experience as a Consultant at Cambridge University Hospitals. His comprehensive training enables him to provide high-quality care for Orthopaedic Hip and Knee Surgery.

Dr Abdelaal completed his postgraduate training at Alexandria University/Menoufia University in Egypt and underwent further training at hospitals in Glasgow, Newcastle, and Manchester. He have a special interest in regional anaesthesia and has contributed to textbooks on the subject. He frequently teaches on courses about ultrasound guided regional anaesthesia.

Dr Andrea Ortu is a Aonsultant Anaesthetist at Addenbrooke’s Hospital and specialises in orthopaedics, trauma anaesthesia, regional anaesthesia, including ultrasound guided regional anaesthesia, and advanced management of acute post-operative pain. He has numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals.

​

He qualified from Parma University (Italy) and subsequently worked in Cambridge (Addenbrooke’s Hospital) and London (Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital) before obtaining a consultant post at Addenbrooke’s Hospital where he also holds the position of Lead Clinician for Quality and Safety in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care.

Dr Ortu practices at all major private hospitals in Cambridge.

Dr Ram Adapa

Dr Adapa is a Consultant Anaesthetist based at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge. He practises anaesthesia for several surgical specialties, with a special interest in anaesthesia for orthopaedic and neurosurgery. He is skilled in the perioperative management of patients presenting for upper and lower limb surgery, with expertise in regional anaesthesia techniques.


Dr Adapa qualified in India and following anaesthetic training in the East of England, he completed his PhD in anaesthesia at Queens’ College, Cambridge University. His primary research interest includes the exploration of mechanisms of general anaesthesia and consciousness and is widely published and cited in this field. He has written chapters in textbooks of anaesthesia and is an editor of a textbook of neuroanaesthesia. He also reviews manuscripts for several international scientific journals.
